Slack acquires Screenhero for its video and screen sharing features
Slack has purchased communication company Screenhero for an undisclosed sum in a bid to extend its range of chat tools.
The professional communication service will, in the coming months, integrate Screenhero’s voice, video and screen sharing features into the Slack service, while phasing out the standalone Screenhero product.
Stewart Butterfield, Slack's cofounder and chief executive, said: “This is not the typical ‘Our Incredible Journey’ acquisition, where the product disappears - everything will survive and thrive, just immersed in Slack.
“Slack integrates with hundreds of other services, but there are some core features that work best when built directly into the platform.”
A Screenhero statement said: “Slack is a product for team communication, and we’re excited to bring our unique combination of voice, video and screen sharing to the table.”
Screenhero was founded in 2013 in San Francisco, with its founders intent on creating a screen sharing tool focused on collaboration in addition to presentation.
