School of Communication Arts hosts Portfolio Day at The Drum Labs
The ad school, which has been based in The Drum’s building for the past year, is about to see this year’s students step into the professional world and shine.
The event is expected to attract around 50 different agencies
The School of Communication Arts is holding its much-anticipated Portfolio Day at The Drum Labs. This event provides students who have been part of the school over the past year with the invaluable opportunity to present their work to creative directors and agency representatives who support the institution.
Marc Lewis, dean of the School of Communication Arts, outlined the significance of the day, stating: “What’s happening today is akin to our exams or graduation. It’s the culmination of a year of hard work, where students get to showcase their brilliance.”
The event is expected to attract around 50 different agencies, with representatives attending a total of 450 sessions with the students. The agencies and brands that support the school through scholarships and sponsorships will have the first pick of the talent, offering jobs and placements.

Agencies and brands in attendance today include JKR, Seen Presents, T&P, Three.co.uk, DentsuMB, We Are Social, Mother, Gravity Road, Grayling, VCCP, Grey, Specsavers, Connec+s, Havas, Pitch, Ogilvy, Zeno, St Luke’s, Seen Studios, TMW, Creature, TMS and Cymbals.
“This is our big end-of-year event, where we put all the pressure on them for one day,” said Lewis. “At the start of the course, we tell them, ‘In 250 days, everyone’s going to know how brilliant you are. Now, become brilliant.’ And now, it’s all over. The portfolios are the work they have done over the course of the year.”
In addition to today’s portfolio reviews, there will be a ceremonial event tomorrow, where students will receive certificates and recognition for their efforts. Though the ceremony is lighthearted and sentimental, it marks the official end of the academic year and the beginning of their professional journeys.
