Is this the UK’s biggest drone show to date? Residents of Hollywood (the town in the Midlands, not in LA) were front and center for the Paramount+ aerial antics aimed at promoting the streaming service to Brits.

The display was the work of Sky Magic Drone Shows, which has been operating in the UK and Singapore since 2005. The spectacle treated locals to iconic imagery from blockbuster films such as Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, Scream and Halo – all of which can be viewed on the streaming service.

This latest campaign comes on the heels of a collaboration between Paramount+ and London’s West End to bring characters from the video game Halo to life. The service set up a series of consumer-led installations, pop-ups and activities with the London Business Alliance and Westminster City Council to entice new customers.

Last week, The Drum spoke with chief marketing officer Anna Priest about the challenge Paramount+ faces to convince Brits to cough up for another streaming service.

“When you hear the ’du, da, da’ [hums the Paramount music] and see the stars going over the mountain – anyone you play that to, it makes them think that a memorable moment will follow,” she said.

“There is enormous awareness and love for the Paramount brand, but how do we unleash the power of our content to the British public?”

Answering her own question, she explained that the key has been to promote all Paramount+ content rather than homing in on a specific audience. “We are not pegging to specific shows. We are going out with the fact we’ve got an enormous raft of stars and they are across a whole range of shows. It really is a broad message at launch.”
