Daan Utsav (Joy of Giving Week) is all about engaging people through ‘acts of giving’. This October while the nation celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Nickelodeon, India’s leading kids’ entertainment franchise joined hands with Western Railways and Ryan International Group of Institutions to give back to nature. Over 350 Ashoka saplings were planted by Nicktoon Dora and 150 kids from Ryan Group near Jogeshwari East Railway station for their green campaign – Ek Tree Kare Pollution Free.

The campaign – Ek Tree Kare Pollution Free will be a week long initiative with activities focusing on creating awareness about saving the environment and educating kids about the consequences of carbon footprint. Commenced on October 2nd, the initiative led by Dora the Explorer saw students from Ryan International schools from three branches – Kandivali, Goregaon, and Malad   come together to show gratitude to the environment. Child actor Abhishek Sharrma too joined the drive and supported the cause.

Speaking on the initiative, Ravinder Bhakar, CPRO of Western Railways said, “We’ve been constantly working towards environment conservation through various associations. However, this is the first time we are doing an activity with kids and we are extremely happy about it. Nickelodeon’s initiative Ek Tree Kare Pollution Free has given another opportunity and the joy of giving back to nature.”

Anjali Bowen principal of Ryan International School, Kandivali commented on the initiative, “The Ryan Group is pleased to associate and partner with Nickelodeon and Western Railway. We are happy to be a part of this wonderful initiative. This gave students an opportunity to understand their social responsibility and encourage them to take an interest in conserving and improving the environment. This endeavour resonates with the vision of our Chairman, Dr. A F Pinto. ‘Each one. Plant one’.”
