Budweiser commits to renewable bars in sustainability drive
Budweiser has switched from fueling the confidence of beer drinkers to fueling the bars, stadiums and other venues in which they sit under a global renewable electricity program.
Budweiser aims to transform 250,000 locations across Brazil by 2025
The net-zero drive seeks to banish carbon from AB InBev’s operations by 2040 by converting over 2,000 pubs across Brazil and Ireland to draw all of their energy needs from renewable sources.
Dubbed The Energy Collective, the goal is to transform 250,000 locations in this manner across Brazil alone by 2025 – a feat that would save the equivalent of 36,375 tons of carbon dioxide being pumped into the atmosphere.
Todd Allen, vice-president global marketing at Budweiser, said: “The Energy Collective is helping facilitate the powering of things people love with renewable electricity, while helping close the gap between what consumers want and what companies can do. We’re just getting started. Our bold dream is that every bar, venue and stadium in the world that serves Budweiser would be powered by renewable electricity.”
As well as saving the planet, the initiative could save bar owners a packet amid skyrocketing energy prices by severing reliance on pricey fossil fuels in favor of renewable sources.
A pilot program is set to break in Columbia later this year, before other markets such as the UK, Chile and Uruguay get their turn to go green.
The initiative follows recent progress by the brewer in switching to 100% renewable energy across its UK brewing operations.
