One lucky woman born on December 22 gets a surprise birthday party from her city, organized by Coca-Cola.

To celebrate the birthdays of those born around Christmas, Coca-Cola teamed up with the Portuguese city of Cascais to throw a huge party for one local.

Olivia Houssiaux was surprised by friends and family she hadn’t seen in years and walked around her city to find street performers, music, fireworks, and the Coca-Cola Christmas truck. But they were all there to celebrate her birthday, not Christmas.

‘Merry Birthday’ was conceived to recognize the millions of birthdays overshadowed by Christmas and encourage people to celebrate them together.

The stunt marked the end of WPP Open X’s ‘The World Needs More Santas’ global campaign, a four-phase run. Design agency AKQA led on ‘Merry Birthday’, with support from Ogilvy PR.
